Setting Up a Business Internet Service? Here are Your Options

If you have a desktop computer, laptop or tablet device, then you need an Internet connection. Several types of services are available, and they all have different advantages and disadvantages. The following is a list of some popular Internet types that can work for you.

Dial-Up Internet

Dial-up Internet is the most basic type of Internet service. It is no longer as popular as it was 10 or 20 years ago, but some areas only have dial-up available. The cost of a dial-up package is between $10 and $15 per month. Your speed will be approximately 56 kb/s. Such a speed would allow you to download a song in 12 minutes. Dial-up is okay if you have no choice, but absolutely not ideal.

DSL Internet

DSL Internet can be almost as inexpensive as dial-up but offers much faster speeds and more flexibility. DSL is a type of broadband internet service, which means you’ll have high-speed internet. Your download speeds will be around one to two minutes for a 5-megabyte song. The average DSL plan costs about $15 to $20 a month. DSL is best for you if you don’t have access to cable internet or just want a more affordable option.

Cable Internet

Cable Internet, another type of broadband, is one of the fastest options for Internet connections. Some cable companies can promise you speeds of 25 Mbps to more than 100 Mbps. Your speed will depend on the plan you choose, as will the cost. A cable Internet package can be as low as $19 or as high as $50 or more. Cable Internet is excellent for running a small business or performing schoolwork that requires video streaming. This is the best value, but it’s only available in certain areas.

Mobile Internet

Mobile internet services provide wireless internet through a device from your cell phone carrier. A monthly cell phone plan can cost you $30 to $50 a month. The hotspot feature is an add-on feature that costs about $20 a month. The speeds are usually around 54 Mbps. In relatable terms, you’ll be able to download a song in less than a minute. You can use five to 10 devices to the same hotspot. Mobile internet service is best if you’re traveling frequently, but it is not a great option for home internet because the data is typically limited to 5 to 10 gigabytes a month.

Satellite Internet

Satellite is comparable to cable Internet, although the speeds are slightly slower. Your download speeds will fall within the range of 15 Mbps to 25 Mbps. You can obtain a satellite Internet package for about $40 a month. Like cable internet, there is no limit to the number of devices you can connect.

The bottom line? If it’s available in your area, cable internet is almost always the way to go. If not, you have several other options. Take your time to choose the one that bests fits your budget and your lifestyle.
