2018 Jeep Compass Review

The Jeep Compass, redesigned for 2017 to more closely resemble the Grand Cherokee, slots in between Jeep’s smaller Renegade and larger Cherokee. It’s a useful size and a well-executed vehicle. Strong sales of the new Compass suggest that Jeep’s inter-family competition is actually a good thing for the brand. Every Jeep Compass is on sale now. Buyers can search offers from various jeep car dealers to find the best deal.

What’s New for 2018?

Fresh off a total redesign for 2017, the 2018 Jeep Compass is mostly unchanged. The only change to the lineup is that the Limited trim, which was previously only available with all-wheel drive, can now be had with front-wheel drive. As its basic structure is unchanged, it holds the same amount of cargo and provide the same amount of interior storage as the 2017 Jeep Compass. The basic powertrain offerings of the Compass have not changed for 2018 after a complete overhaul for 2017. But Jeep makes its front-wheel-drive powertrain available in the top-of-the-line Limited trim. Jeep made front-wheel drive the standard offering in the Compass’s uplevel Limited trim. That setup was previously only available in lower-trim models. The new Compass remains one of the most capable off-roaders in this segment, second to the Jeep Cherokee. Its on-road performance characteristics haven’t changed and remain underwhelming.

Jeep Compass are offered with several option packages. The $1,195 Navigation package, which adds automatic climate control and an upgraded infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The $245 compact spare tire, which should have been a standard feature.

The 2018 Jeep Compass boasts fresh new look, loads of available technology and genuine off-road capability. However, it has some shortcomings. The nine-speed automatic needs refinement, brakes are too grabby, option packages are expensive. Overall, the new Compass is greatly improved after a redesign, but its on-road performance and powertrains are lackluster.
